Details
Finely polished horse-eye bean (Mucuna urens) 30mm in diameter, harverest in West Indies.
The seeds of Mucuna urens are not all perfectly identical, the one you receive may be slightly different than those shown in the photo, but it will be of the same species and processed with the same care.
There are around a hundred species of Mucuna in the tropics, as well as Dioclea, whose astonishing seeds are called by French speakers Oeil de boeuf, Oeil de bourrique or even deer eye.
Mucuna urens is used in traditional medicine. A tincture made from the powdered bean macerated in alcohol is a soothing remedy used against hemorrhoids, especially those inclined to bleed.
Traditionally kept in houses, in the pocket or as a necklace to ward off the evil eye, it is considered a protection or a lucky charm in tropical America and as far north as northern Europe when they wash up on a beach after a long trip.
